Wooly abstract painting with wool is a creation that came to me standing on an Art market in Leeuwarden next to an artist who’s business is felting.
I once saw a former collegue making large creations with felting that attracted me very much. As it was too quiet at this art market, I had the time to talk to the woman about the technique, as she started explaining and this idea came to me.
Water is essential to wet-felting and water is also essential to watercolor. Could the two of them go together, I started to ask myself. My mind started working and seeing things.
At home I looked up some specifics about wet-felting and the next thing I was experimenting.
I had a go at first applying the watercolor and on top of that the wool. Next to that I did it the other way around to see if that would look very different. What attracted me the most was a side effect I didn’t expect of the wool, threads that made little patterns.
In the end it didn’t matter how to start.
I created Wooly abstract painting with wool. With this one I wanted to show the wool even more and outside the mat.
You can put it in a frame, it comes with a white mat already around it. I wouldn’t put a glass before it, it will hide the textured surface which shows the wool. Handle with care!
Because I wanted to show the creative process of how I applied the wool to the paint, I filmed it and this video is to be seen at my youtube channel
