This painting is a combination of two buildings that makes a huge impact. Standing there, looking at what you see makes that your sight can’t cover it all. It is just too much to see.
The Mezquita mosque in Córdoba Spain is a very high building with lots of arches in these significant colors. Also a building that wasn’t tore down for a different religion but used and give a new feeling to it by building a Cathedral aswell in it.
The Alhambra is of later date and very impressing in its own way. It has a palace with very intriguing geometric forms that covers the arches. Forms I had never seen before.

Both buildings and the overwhelming feeling they gave me, made me to combine them in an Escher kind of way. This also brought me great pleasure because with connecting the arches to the right pillars I often had to look twice which made me think of Escher. Also made me think that maybe a wrong connection was the birth of his remarkable artwork. Who knows? If you do, please let me know.
