marianne portret

Hi there,

I paint joy and freedom, subjects that lighten up your day, everytime you take a look. My name is Marianne van den Heuvel and I have a background in music.

This joy and freedom in all their lightness are essential to me. It’s this freedom that lets me create.

It took me a long time, being in a different art-skin as a violinist playing in Dutch orchestras as Hoofdstad Operette, Metropole Orkest, Radio Symphonie orkest and Ballet orkest and all kind of smaller ensembles, to see that this was not where I would find my creative freedom.

It was 2020 that my eyes really opened. A strong feeling of nothing matters if you don’t live the life you have, came over me. I took a color pencil in my hands and my creative juices started to flow immediately. It lightened up my heart, brought an instant smile on my face and I thought, what if I start again with watercolor?

You will find this found freedom and joy for life in my colorful and vibrant paintings made with watercolor, or aquarel as we say in the Netherlands to make a distinction towards gouache.

A fun fact about me: I love to cook with preference for Indian and Thai cuisine with all their flavours and spices. And than all of a sudden it’s the French cuisine with their delighted sauces.

I believe that there’s an artist in many of us and that art is the most wonderfull way to connect and enjoy peace together with looking at and creating beautiful art.

Art is my gift back to the world, reflecting the beauty around me in my soul.

A painter once said that he had at last found his style. Well, I am glad I haven’t found mine yet… I’d be bored to death.’ Edgar Degas.

Just another fun fact: I love Belgian Beer. I still can remember the first time I drank a ‘Gouden Carolus’. Full of taste and just a tiny bit sweet. My latest favorite is ‘Val dieu’ triple. A fresh taste, yet full of character that doesn’t bore easily.

To me, colors and taste are glued together.
